At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Valve has announced a partnership with mobile handset manufacturer HTC to work on a new virtual reality headset. The device is a collaboration between the two companies and has been dubbed Vive VR. It is to be compatible with RC and games from different firms.
The device has an unusual appearance and although they are larger than others on offer, HTC states that weight will not be an issue. By paying attention to the specifications, we can see that the HTC Vive VR is basically a powered Oculus Rift. It has a positioning system that uses cameras and infrared sensors embedded in his body, a resolution of 1200×1080 pixels per eye and a refresh rate of 90 fps. It will also be a device that sits on top of a table, at least when based on the specifications.
Price and availability are still unknown, but HTC announced that it will arrive to stores this year 2015.
